Ephesians 4:12  For the equipping of the Saints for the Work of the Ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ.

 

The Great Apostle Paul was inspired by the Holy Spirit to tell us the reason God calls people to Ministry positions. He wrote this in His Letter to the Ephesians. His explanation is rather long, but as we break it down phrase by phrase, the real reasons begin to unfold right before our eyes.

 

Verses 11-16 are, in fact, one long sentence. As we take a closer look, we will discover the Truth of God’s Word on this subject.

 

He began by saying, And He Himself gave some to be Apostles, some Prophets, some Evangelists, and some Pastors and Teachers, for the equipping of the Saints for the Work of Ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ.

 

First, we must understand that ONLY GOD calls people to Ministry Positions. People try to appoint folks to positions and try to teach them how to be something, and although the person may be willing to try, without the Calling of God, it is futile. And He Himself  gave some to be……..

 

The Callings of Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers comprise what is known as the Five-Fold Ministry of the Church set in place by the Lord Himself.  All Five are needed to build a strong, fellowship of believers. 

 

Paul goes on to give the purpose for the Five-Fold Ministry Positions, which is, For the equipping of the Saints for the Work of the Ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ.

 

The Work of God goes on from generation to generation. God’s purpose for every believer (Saint) is to Work in the Ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ, and it is the responsibility of those in the Five-Fold Ministry to equip and encourage them to do so.

 

This means to use their individual Calling to equip and edify other believers so they too may go on to further the Ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ as they mature in their faith and seek more of Him in their lives.

 

The Calling of the Lord is NOT intended to build an empire for the person called. Everything God does is to bring glory and honor to HIM alone! No person, however gifted and called they may be, is worthy of any glory or honor.  All glory is the Lord's! Every Calling is ONLY for the equipping and edification of other believers.

 

The Truth of God’s Word will…..…..turn the tide
