Psalms 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
The only thing that ultimately matters in our lives is being a new creation in Jesus Christ. Everything else in this world is trivial. Many people believe their membership in a certain church is important or the denomination they belong to. All this is meaningless to God and when it is all said and done, it is God that we want to please.
We are all created by God to please Him. This is the Purpose of our lives. When God created mankind, He put this longing to please Him inside our hearts. He still does this today. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
Only God can create something from nothing. When we see the word Create it always means something that God has done. Man can improve things and repair things but only God can create something from nothing. No one else can do this.
When David committed the sin of adultery and murder, he was extremely convicted. Out of this conviction he wrote Psalm 51. He cried out to God in repentance because he knew he had sinned against God. Yes, his sin affected many people, but ultimately his sin was against God and he knew it.
This is why he wrote Psalms 51. It is a song of true, sincere repentance. The 10th Verse says, Create in me a clean heart o God. David knew his heart was damaged and it had to be repaired. He couldn’t repair it himself so he went to his Creator. David knew he had to have a new, clean heart, and to accomplish this, He had to have a Creative act of God.
Sin damages us. We cannot fix the damage. Doctors, psychologists, or psychiatrists cannot fix it either. Drugs and alcohol only mask the problem. They may cover it up for a while and numb our minds but these things cannot fix the problem which is sin against God.
When we sin we hurt God. We grieve the Holy Spirit of God. In our heart of hearts, we know this and we become heartbroken over our disobedience to our Creator. Jesus said, The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has Anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor, He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. (Luke 4:18)
Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted. Only He can do this and He wants to do it for us. He does not want us to be brokenhearted. He is able to create in us a clean heart and make us a new creation! Only God can create in us a clean heart and make us new. This is why Jesus went to the Cross. He shed His Perfect Blood on the Cross of Calvary so we can be a new creation.
It starts with sincere repentance and a desire to change and be made new. This is the free Gift of God to all who will believe. Jesus is God’s Gift to mankind. Take it. You too can be a new creation! Hallelujah!
