Be Separate From Them

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous Light.

Since the time of the First Church, Christians have always been different. We are called to be different from the world and therefore, we must be unified if we are to stand against the wiles of the Devil in this evil and perverse world.

The Christians of the First Century were mostly Jews and as we discussed yesterday, they were banished from Jewish society due to their faith in Christ. The Jews hated Jesus and so naturally, they hated His followers. This caused the Christians to have to ban together and support each other.

As time went on and the Church grew in numbers the hatred became more and more intense. Jews were turning their backs on the Law and the Jewish Religion by the droves because as Jesus taught. And you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

Nothing will put a person in bondage more than the demonic spirit of religion. Likewise, nothing will set a person free from bondage more than the Truth of the Gospel of Christ. Jesus went to the Cross to set people free from the bondage of sin in their lives.

Christianity is not a religion. Christianity is a lifestyle based on a personal relationship with the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. He gave His all so we can be free. He willingly laid down His Life on the cruel Cross of Calvary so we can know the freedom and liberty God intends for His people.

We are children of God because we believe in the Finished Work of Christ on the Cross. We are free because we believe in the Finished Work of Christ on the Cross. Everything we have is due to our faith in His Finished Work. Because of this, we are peculiar to the world. People call us weird. The world does not understand us but when times get tough, we are the first ones they turn to and ask us to pray for them.

God called us to be different from the world. The more we devote our lives to Christ, the more different we become. The Holy Spirit moves in and if we will allow Him, He will make lots of changes to us. These changes are for the better. We find that we don’t want to do the things we used to do. We don’t listen to the same music or watch the same television shows anymore. In short, we become a new creation in Christ. Paul reminded us: Come out from among them, and be separate, said the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. (2 Corinthians 6:17)

Come out from among them and God will……….turn the tide……….in your life.

Separate from them,         Doreen
