Believers And Disciples

Acts 9:10 And there was a certain Disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here.

Our study in the Book of Acts has brought us to the place where God knocked Saul off his horse to the ground. While he lay there totally consumed by the Light of the Lord, He spoke to him. Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? This brought Saul to total repentance because he had been the chief blasphemer, and persecutor of Believers in Jesus. When Saul got up he found himself to be blind and needed to be led by the hand into the city of Damascus.

During this time, the Lord was preparing a believer named Ananias for a very special task that would cause his name to be written and recorded in the Word of God. In Acts 9:10, Luke refers to Ananias as a Disciple. And there was a certain Disciple at Damascus, named Ananias;

There is a big difference between a Believer and a Disciple. A Believer is one who has knowledge of Jesus and believes it to be true. A Disciple is a Believer who has fully consecrated their life to the Lord and has agreed to be a Follower. One can be a Believer and not be a Disciple. But, one cannot be a Disciple without first being a Believer.

Many people are satisfied with just being a Believer while the true Blessings of God come by being a Disciple. It takes obedience to be a Disciple. You have to hear from the Lord and then DO what the Lord says. A Disciple is a Follower. One cannot be a Follower without a Leader. Jesus is our Leader and every Believer is called to be a Follower of Him. Unfortunately, most Believers are not willing to give up their personal agenda to be a Follower.

Jesus said, Go therefore and make Disciples of all nations. (Matthew 28:19) While many ministers of the Gospel may see people become Believers, few go on to be Disciples. Why? Because it’s not that hard to believe but it is not that easy to obey and follow.

We all have to start somewhere in the Kingdom of God. We start as Believers while our goal should be to become a Disciple; an obedient Follower of Christ. This is what Ananias was and due to his obedience, his name is recorded in the Word of God. What an honor! When the Lord called his name, Ananias immediately responded. and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here. (Acts 9:10)

If you are reading this, you are most likely a Believer. Now ask yourself this question: Am I a Disciple or just a Believer? You are called to be a Disciple. Are you willing?

God wants to……..….turn the tide……….in your world!

I hear your call, Lord. Here I am.         Doreen
