Hebrews 7:22 ...by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better Covenant.
Yesterday, we entered into a discussion about listening and obeying the Voice of the Holy Spirit. He is prompting me to spend more time on this subject because many (if not most) Christians give little to no credence to the Working and Operation of the Holy Spirit in their lives which is an absolute travesty!
Some of you have asked, “If we have Jesus we have enough. What does the Holy Spirit do that Jesus can’t do?” It is absolutely true that Jesus is enough BUT the Holy Spirit lives within us and is actually God’s way for us to have Jesus with us every minute of every day.
When Jesus walked this earth, He was physically with those who followed Him. They sat at His Feet and listened to Him Teach and Preach. They watched as He performed thousands of Miracles. However, only those who were with Him at those times had the opportunity to witness these things and listen to Him.
After Jesus was Crucified, Buried, and Resurrected, God sent the Holy Spirit in His place and every believer has Him living with them all the time. That means we have access to the Spirit of Jesus Christ all the time! What could be better than that?!
Jesus told the people this. He said, But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. (John 14:26) EVERY PERSON who believes that Jesus is the Son of God who came and died on the Cross for their sins, was buried and rose again on the third day, is Saved and has the Holy Spirit dwelling inside them.
In actuality, this means that we (believers) have Jesus living in us all the time through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. When we learn to enter into His Presence, we are in effect sitting at the Feet of Jesus listening to Him Teach and Preach just as if we were physically with Him.
This is why the New Covenant is said to be a Better Covenant. ...by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better Covenant. (Hebrews 7:22) Jesus is our access to this Better Covenant. That’s why He said, I am the Door. (John 10:9) Having entered through the Door (Christ) gives us constant access to the Holy Spirit which is to have the Mind and Heart of Christ. Again, what could be better than that?
If you have ever envied the people who followed Jesus personally and heard Him Preach and Teach in Biblical times, please consider the fact that you have something even better than that. You have 24/7 access to the Mind and Heart of Jesus. They had to go to where He was and try to hear Him speak. They had to leave their home and work to be with Him. We don’t have to do any of that. Instead, under the New and Better Covenant, He goes with us! All we have to do is enter into His Presence, listen, and obey. The New Covenant is a Better Covenant and Jesus died so we can have it. Wow! What a Savior and Lord!
