John 8:3 You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free.

In the 8th Chapter of the Book of Acts, we find where Philip took the Gospel of Christ to Samaria. Please remember that the Jews hated the Samaritans because they were half-breeds. However, Philip understood that Jesus went to the Cross for the sins of all people, not just the Jews but everyone, everywhere!

It seems that prior to Philip’s arrival in Samaria, the Samaritans had been listening to a man who practiced sorcery. He claimed to be of God but operated in trickery. Luke recorded it like this: But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery in the city and astonished the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great, to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest saying, “This man is the great power of God.” And they heeded him because he had bewitched them with his sorceries for a long time. (Acts 8:9-11)

The Samaritans believed that all supernatural works are of God. They were mistaken. Not until they heard the Truth of the Gospel and witnessed true Miracles, did they see that they had been sitting under the ministry of the Devil. They were bewitched and didn’t know it.

The Word of God does not tell us what form of witchcraft Simon used. All we know is that this demonic power was able to do some things supernaturally. However, when Philip showed up in Samaria and spoke the Truth of the Word of God, they saw the difference and were Saved! Hallelujah. But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the Kingdom of God, and the Name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. (Acts 8:12)

Peter warns us about being alert and watchful in regard to witchcraft and sorcery because Satan comes ONLY to steal, kill, and destroy. (John 10:10) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

This brings us to the question: How do we know if the supernatural things we are witnessing are of God or of Satan? The answer to this question is easy. It must all be in accordance with the Word of God. If it doesn’t line up with the Bible, it is not of God and if it is not of God, it is of Satan.

This is why it is so important to read and study the Word of God. If we do not know the Truth, we will not recognize the counterfeit. Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)

The people of Samaria were bewitched prior to Philip’s arrival. Simon had been practicing witchcraft and they believed it to be of God. This is so prevalent today! People go to fortune tellers, palm readers, and psychics hoping to receive a supernatural word. Others resort to astrology, horoscopes, tarot cards, and Ouija boards. None of this is of God. It is all the work of the devil and should be avoided at all costs because you will become bewitched like the Samaritans.

Seek the Lord Jesus Christ and the leading of the Holy Spirit of God. Read and study the Bible for yourself. Therein lies the Truth. You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free. (John 8:32)

The Truth will…...….turn the tide……..in this bewitched world.
