Blessed Or Cursed

Jeremiah 17:5-8 Thus says the Lord: Cursed be the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the Lord. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

This is an extremely powerful Passage of Scripture and speaks of the Promise of God for those who trust in Him and not in man.

The phrase “makes flesh his arm,” means those who trust in their own ability and that of other people or the world.  In the same sentence, the Prophet says “whose heart departs from the Lord.”  When we trust in man (the flesh) our heart has departed from the Lord. This action will result in failure every time!

However, those who place their hope and faith in the Lord will be blessed by God. They will thrive like a tree planted by the water. Their roots will be deep and the heat will not scare them. Although the world will experience drought and famine, these people will not worry or become anxious. They will continue to grow and yield fruit.

This is a Promise of God! We have a choice in whom we trust. This choice will result in whether we are cursed or blessed. We can live in the dry desert and wilderness and remain a little shrub or we can grow like a tree planted by the water and bear much fruit.

Jesus said, You shall know them by their fruits. (Matthew 7:16) Every tree can be identified by the fruit it bears. A tree that bears no fruit is dying or dead. The man who trusts in the Lord and whose hope is in the Lord will not cease from bearing fruit.

This is true in our personal lives, families, businesses and ministry. When we place our faith in the Lord and trust Him for everything, we will thrive and prosper. This is the Plan of God for all His children. This is His Plan for you and me. He can do what no man can do. Place your full faith and trust in Him.

When God’s people trust in Him, He will……..turn the tide
