Body Soul And Spirit

Revelation 3:17 Because you say, “I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing”—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.

This world consists of two realms: the natural and the spiritual. We all live and operate in the natural realm. This comes easy for us because our five senses allow us to see, hear, smell, taste, and touch things in the natural. I like to say, “It’s natural to be natural.”

However, the spiritual realm is far greater and much more powerful. The spiritual realm consists of two sides, good and evil and EVERYTHING originates from one or the other. Everything Good is founded in and generated by God, His Son Jesus, the Holy Spirit of God, and the trillions of Righteous Angels and Heavenly Host.

On the contrary, the evil side is generated and controlled by Satan, evil spirits, fallen angels, and demons. While Satan is powerful and his minions are many in number, they are by no means greater or more powerful than God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the Righteous Angels. Greater is He who is in us than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4)

God created us in His Image. As He consists of Three Parts (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit known as the Trinity) we too are created with three parts, body, soul, and spirit. Our bodies are the physical part of us that houses our soul and spirit. Our bodies are temporary. The Apostle Paul referred to our physical bodies as tents. For we know that if our earthy house, this tent,……..(2 Corinthians 5:1) We all know and understand that at some point in time we will all physically die and our bodies will return to dust.

However, our souls and spirit beings live forever! Our soul consists of our mind, will, and emotions which include our hearts. Our emotions (how we feel) are directly attached to our heart which is at the center of our being. Without a living heart, we die because our heart pumps our blood (the life source) throughout our body.

Our mind and our heart work together because they are both parts of our souls. Our minds think and our hearts feel and they work hand in hand. These two control our speech and actions. For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. (Matthew 12:34)

Our spirit being is our direct connection to God (who is also Spirit). Satan hates God and his goal is to destroy everything God loves, which is us. The spiritual battle that rages every day is over our spirits because this is the part of us that communicates with God and Satan does not want us to communicate with God. He wants us to communicate with him and his evil spirits and demons.

This is why the enemy (Satan and his demons) attack our spirits and he does so through our minds. While Satan has no control over us, he absolutely plants thoughts in our minds which settle in our hearts and cause us to sin and fall short of the glory of God. Every sin begins with a thought that has been planted in our minds by Satan.

The Apostle Paul understood this because he fought it in his own life every day. That’s why he instructs us in spiritual warfare. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the Knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)

To win the spiritual battle and become an overcomer, we must learn to take EVERY THOUGHT CAPTIVE TO THE OBEDIENCE OF CHRIST! This is where believers have failed and this is why the Church, as a whole, is in the lukewarm condition it’s in today. Jesus said, Because you say, “I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing”—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked. (Revelation 3:21) In the natural we are rich and in need of nothing, but in the spiritual we have nothing.

The natural will all deteriorate, die and fade away. The spiritual is what God is looking at. Every believer is the Church; the Temple of God. Take time to examine your spiritual condition. Without Jesus, we are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked. With Him we are Saved, Joyful, Rich, Seeing, and Clothed in His Righteousness. With faith in Christ, we can have it all! Hallelujah!
