John 8:36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

 

The Benefit of FREEDOM is one that encompasses every aspect of the life of the born again believer. Jesus came to set us totally free from every hold the enemy has on us. One of the most powerful statements Jesus ever made was the following: The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)

 

In this single statement, Jesus says it all! This explains the spiritual warfare that plagues the life of every human being on earth. God created us in His Image and to spend eternity in Heaven with Him. Satan does everything he can to destroy what God created and our relationship with Him. Jesus went to the Cross of Calvary to restore everything Satan robbed from us and it can all be described in one word: FREEDOM.

 

John recorded a conversation between Jesus and a group of Jews. He wrote: Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My Word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free. They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, ‘You will be made free’?” Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.”

 

God created us to be free but due to the fall of Adam and Eve we are born with the sin nature which makes us born slaves; slaves to sin. The people Jesus spoke to that day did not understand what He was saying to them. That’s why they answered, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, ‘You will be made free’?”

 

People born in America and other free countries of the world don’t know they are slaves either. When they read the words of Jesus, “The Truth shall make you free.” They may respond similarly and say, “We are not slaves. We were born in America, the land of the free! We are born free.” Jesus’ answer to the people that day is the same to anyone who declares themselves born free today. “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.”

 

It is the grip of Satan on our lives that makes us slaves; slaves to sin. Faith in the shed Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to break those chains. He came and died on the Cross so we can be set free from the bondage of sin and the grip of Satan. FREEDOM is the ultimate Benefit. Hallelujah!
