Acts 16:18 But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour.

 

While Paul and Silas were preaching in Philippi, a demon-possessed woman came to their meeting. Although she spoke some truth, she was disruptive which caused Paul to become annoyed. Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of Salvation.” And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour.

 

Paul had the Gift of Discernment of Spirits and he discerned that the words they were hearing the young woman speak were not her, but the demon inside her. The demon kept repeating the same thing over and over again. “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of Salvation.”

 

This was a true statement spoken by a demon through a young woman. However, Paul knew it was the demon speaking. He also knew that demon spirits know the Word of God and the Truth BUT the Holy Spirit caused him to remember the Words of Jesus who taught that the enemy comes ONLY to kill, steal, and destroy.

 

It didn’t matter that what the demon was speaking was true. What mattered was the demon’s motive which was to bring destruction to the Body of Christ. So, Paul commanded the demon to come out of her in the Name of Jesus and it did. “I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour.

 

My friends, Satan knows the Word of God. All his demons know it too. Even the demons believe—and tremble! (James 2:19) They appear to be good and speak some truth, but they are demons, evil spirits who work for Satan and they do not want good for God’s people!

 

Pray for the Gift of Discernment of Spirits. God will grant you this. When you come face to face with a demonic spirit, do not be afraid. Rather, command it to leave in the Name of Jesus Christ. It MUST obey because it cannot stand against the Mighty Name of Jesus. Hallelujah!

 

Jesus gave us authority over every evil spirit. And He said to them, I saw Satan fall like lightning from Heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means harm you. (Luke 10:18-19) We must walk and operate in the authority we have been given by Jesus.

 

 

The Name of Jesus will……..….turn the tide
