John 14:12 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the Works that I do he will do also; and greater Works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
Luke began the Book of Acts by writing: The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach. (Acts 1:1) Luke was referring to his written account of the Gospel of Christ which included all that Jesus began both to do and teach.
Obviously, Luke was saying that all the Miracles, Signs, Wonders, and Teaching of Jesus were just the beginning. Jesus is gone to be with the Father. Who will continue His Work? What was this Work? What did Jesus begin to do and teach? That, my friends, is the subject of the Book of Acts.
During the Ministry of Jesus on Earth, He preached the Gospel, healed the sick, and cast out demons. He taught the Word of God (which at the time was what we know as the Old Testament) and He laid the Foundation for life in the New Covenant. Living for God would be completely different and there would be no more Law of Moses. The people would no longer have to make daily sacrifices, celebrate feast days, maintain dietary restrictions, etc. Jesus took all those things to the Cross as the last and Final Sacrifice to God the Father, once and for all.
Life in the New Covenant would be revealed by God to Paul who would go about teaching it to the world and planting churches throughout the region.
As believers in Christ, we have much to celebrate. A quick study on what life was like in Old Testament times paints a picture of total slavery to the Law. They lived every day in condemnation because they were totally consumed by what they HAD to do and what they COULD NOT do. The Law had been expanded from the Ten Commandments of God to over 600 Laws which made living for God an impossibility.
Jesus came to change all that. He came that we may be set free from the bondage of slavery to the Law. He did not abolish the Law, He fulfilled it. Jesus made this clear early on in His Sermon on the Mount. Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. (Matthew 5:17)
I find it unfortunate that many born-again believers today find it necessary to celebrate the Feast Days and try to maintain other portions of the Old Law. Don’t get me wrong, I find it interesting to read about all of it, but my celebration is in the fact that Jesus fulfilled it all and I no longer have to do anything except place my faith in His Finished Work on the Cross. Hallelujah! That’s cause to celebrate!
Faith in Christ alone will….….turn the tide
