Colossians 1:18 And He is the Head of the Body, the Church, who is the beginning, the Firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Throughout all of history, people have used the Synagogue and/or the Church as a place to build a personal empire where they are the head. Pride and greed are two of Satan’s most powerful and effective weapons against God’s people. It is human nature to want to climb the ladder of success and there is nothing wrong with that until we become more obsessed with our own success, power, position, and prosperity than we are with the Kingdom of God.

Paul had it all in the hierarchy of the Synagogue prior to his conversion to Christ. He was slated to be at the top. He was the most educated person on earth at that time and sat under the teaching of Gamaliel where he was being groomed to be the most powerful person in the Jewish religion.

When he got saved on the Road to Damascus, his conversion was so dramatic, he walked away from all that. He took his eyes off himself and his future in the Synagogue and focused solely on Jesus Christ and His Church. Paul understood that no man was or ever could be, the head of the Church. This position was held by Jesus Christ Who gave His precious Blood on the Cross of Calvary.

God does Call people into certain positions in the Church and Gifts people with abilities to perform certain functions within the Church but Jesus is and will always be the Head of the Church. No one can work hard enough or give enough money or time to attain this position. People are called to be overseers but they will never be the Head. Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the Church of God which He purchased with His Own Blood. (Acts 20:28)

It’s very easy for the enemy to tempt people with power and money but we must never forget that while we might have given a lot of money and invested many days and years of hard work, the Church does not, and never will, belong to us. The Kingdom of God is just that: The Kingdom of God. It belongs to Him. No person will ever own it or be the head of it. And He (God) put all things under His (Jesus) feet, and gave Him to be Head over all things to the Church. (Ephesians 1:20)

Anyone seeking to build a personal empire on the back of the Lord Jesus Christ and His shed Blood, will answer to God Almighty. This is a very dangerous and foolish thing to do and the Word of God promises that they will come to destruction. Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)

Never lose sight of Who is the Head of the Church. This position is held by no man. The Pastor is not the head. The Chairman of the Deacons is not the head. The General Superintendent or Leader of the Denomination is not the head. Jesus paid with His Life’s Blood to hold this Position and no one will ever change that. And He is the Head of the Body, the Church, who is the beginning, the Firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:18)

When Jesus is Head, He will…...….turn the tide………..in the Church.
