Continuing To Follow Christ

John 8:31-32 If you continue in My Word, then you are my disciples indeed; and you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free.

I have received many comments recently concerning the once saved, always saved doctrine. Many people have been taught this and unfortunately, they believe it. However, when we study the Word of God with an open mind, setting aside all previous teaching, we find the real Truth.

The Passage of Scripture this doctrine is based on is found in Romans 8:38-39. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, not height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the Love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. It is absolutely true that no one can take our Salvation away from us. That is a fact.

However, God has created us all with something called freewill. This is our ability to make choices for ourselves. While no one can take our Salvation from us, we CAN choose to walk away from it ourselves.

When we read the Words of Jesus carefully and study them, we find the Truth. Remember, Jesus is the Truth. He told us this when He said, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by Me. (John 14:6)

Let’s take a look at Jesus’ Words found in John 8:31-32. If you continue in My Word, then you are my disciples indeed; and you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free. Here we find a beautiful Promise of Freedom but it comes with a condition. Jesus began with the word “if.” He said IF you CONTINUE in My Word, then you are my disciples indeed; and you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free.

The keyword here is CONTINUE. This means that the condition to receiving the Freedom Christ has for us is to faithfully continue to live our lives every day according to His Word. This is a personal choice we all must continually make. We must choose to either live today according to His Word, or not. This choice will result in the Freedom we have which is the Victory over sin in our lives.

When Jesus called His Disciples He said, Come and follow Me. There was no time limit on His Call on their lives. He did not say, Come and follow me for today and then you can go home tomorrow and back to your evil ways. He didn’t say that! His Call to follow Him is a lifelong commitment.

When Jesus walked this earth, His followers could actually follow Him. They physically went with Him wherever He went. We cannot do this because He is no longer here with us. That’s why He said continue in My Word, Remember, Jesus IS the Word. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His Glory, the Glory as of the only Begotten of the Father, full of Grace and Truth. (John 1:1; 1:14)

Therefore, as Christians; believers; followers of Christ, He instructs us to CHOOSE to CONTINUE to follow Him daily and live in accordance with His Word. When we do we will know the Victory and Freedom He went to the Cross of Calvary for us to have. That’s WHY God sent Him and that’s WHY Jesus willingly suffered and died on the Cross. He did it for you and me. Oh what a Savior! Hallelujah, He is worth following!

The Truth will…...….turn the tide……….in your life.
