Galatians 5:16-17 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
In this Passage, the Apostle Paul speaks to the ongoing spiritual battle all believers face on a daily basis. The optimum lifestyle would be to “Walk in the Spirit” every day, all day long. However, the spiritual attack we come under on a daily basis and the sinful nature that is within us, causes us to fail at times. No truly born again believer in Christ wants to sin, but at times, we all do.
Paul struggled with this and wrote about it in the 7th Chapter of Romans. For the good that I want to do, I do not do; but the evil I want not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I want not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. Due to the spiritual fall of Adam and Eve, every person has a sin nature which makes us susceptible to the attack of Satan and his demon spirits. The struggle Paul described above is the spiritual battle with the sin nature.
The strongest, most self-controlled person cannot fight demonic spirits on their own. The only way to Victory over sin and the devil in this life is by placing our faith in Christ and His Sacrifice on the Cross which enables us to live and walk in the Holy Spirit. This does not mean the believer will never sin again. It does, however, mean sin will not dominate our lives and we will not be a slave to the sin nature. Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under Grace.
This is the war that rages within people and causes them to live a life of bondage. People survive in this state but it robs them of the Peace and Joy Jesus gave His Life for them to have. These people live dreadful lives tormented by the enemy and unfortunately, Christian churches are filled with people in this condition.
Few Preachers will preach on this subject because most people don’t want to hear about sin, the Cross, the Blood of Jesus, or Hell. Therefore, they preach “feel good” sermons week after week and the people leave church exactly the way they entered: Hurting, tormented, and in bondage.
There is an old saying, “The truth hurts.” This is true in the natural and the spiritual. The Truth of the Word of God does hurt at times, but like the scalpel of the surgeon, we must endure the pain of the incision to have the tumor removed and be healed.
Psalm 107:17-20 Fools, because of their transgression, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted. Their soul abhorred all manner of meat, (this is the meat of the Word of God) and they drew near to the gates of death. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His Word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
Almost dead, God’s people finally cry out to Him. He sent His Word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. This is the Power of the Word of God. Please remember, Jesus IS the Word. John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We cannot separate Jesus from the Word; they are one and the same.
The Sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross and the Word of God WILL heal every wound, deliver us from the tormenting spirits of Satan, and deliver us from all bondage. Therein lies the Hope of the Lord and the Victory for the believer who is willing to go under the Knife of the Word of God.
The Word of God will……..turn the tide
