John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
Yesterday, we discussed the importance of keeping God first and foremost in our lives. This is in keeping with the First Commandment given to Moses and the First Commandment given to us by Jesus. You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in Heaven above, of that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing Mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments. (Exodus 20:3-6) You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest Commandment. (Matthew 22:37-38)
God created human beings in three parts: body, soul, and spirit. Our spirit man is the part of us that is spiritual. It contains that which we believe in and place our faith in. It is the part of us that communes with God because God is a spiritual being. The things and information that we allow to enter our minds will affect our spirit being.
If we consider our spirit man to be a vessel or container, we can see that it has a capacity. Like any container, it can only hold so much. It is God’s Will that our spirit man container be filled with Him and the things of His Kingdom.
Everything in this world is attached to a spirit; good or evil. There are no partial evil spirits or somewhat good spirits. They are all either good (of God) or evil (of Satan). Therefore, if we fill our minds with evil pictures and words they will contaminate our spirit man and adversely affect our belief structure which is our faith in God.
On the contrary, when we fill our minds with the Word of God and the Goodness found in the Kingdom of God, we cultivate Goodness and Righteousness in our spirit man which in turn builds our faith in God.
John the Baptist understood this and spoke about it. He knew from birth that he was created and called for a specific purpose. That being, to introduce Jesus Christ to the world. He did all he could to not allow the things of this world to fill his spirit man. He tried to stay focused on his life purpose and his Lord.
John the Baptist spoke of his spirit being like a container and said, He must increase, but I must decrease. (John 3:30) The Holy Spirit of God wants to take over our spirit man but we must make room for Him. This means that we have to get rid of that which is evil and make room for that which is Holy, Righteous, and good.
This must be intentional on our part. When we WANT to make God our first priority we will willingly start cleaning house in our spirit being. No one can clean the house of your spirit being but you. If you want more of God and His Righteousness, then you have to decrease so He can increase.
This is what Jesus meant when He said, Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33) Make room in your spirit man for God and His Kingdom. Gid rid of some stuff that is taking up space and ask God to fill it with His Righteousness. Seek after Him with all your heart. Make Him your first priority above and before all else. Willingly decrease and He will increase. Then, your faith will grow exponentially.
Seek Him and He will ………..turn the tide……..in your life.
Decreasing so He can increase. Doreen
