1 Kings 3:10-12 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.”
Young Solomon had asked God for understanding and the ability to discern good from evil; discernment of spirits. His request pleased God and He responded in kind, granting Solomon what he had asked for and much, much more!
It is God who referred to discernment and understanding as “wisdom” and declared that Solomon would be the wisest man to ever live. I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. (1 Kings 3:12) And so it was.
All this happened in a dream and when Solomon woke up he knew he God had communicated in a very real way. He understood that God had blessed him tremendously and his response is well worth mentioning. Then Solomon awoke; and indeed it had been a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord, offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants. (1 Kings 3:15)
Solomon was only twenty years old when all this happened. Over a thousand years later Jesus (a direct descendent of Solomon) would make the following statement: Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things will be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)
Young Solomon sought the things of God and much was given him. Let this be a lesson to all of us. God does not change. He is the same, yesterday, today and forever. Give Him praise in your house today!
When God’s people seek God FIRST, He will……....turn the tide
