Luke 14:33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My Disciple.
Who can be a Disciple of Christ? Actually, anyone who accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior can be a Disciple of Christ but they are not automatically one of His Disciples. Jesus spoke to this subject and we read His Words in the 14th Chapter of Luke.
Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My Disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My Disciple.
For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—lest after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish?’ Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace.
So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My Disciple. (Luke 14:25-33)
Many people believe that Jesus is the Son of the Living God. They believe He went to the Cross and died for their sins. This is the faith required to be Saved and Redeemed but how many of these people are true Disciples of Christ?
This is a hard word given to us by Jesus Himself. He gave us the criteria for being one of His Disciples. If you want to be a true Disciple of Christ, He must become the single most important entity in your life. He must come before everyone and everything else. He must be first.
Success in the world is gaining as many material goods as you can. Money, property, and other valuable assets are the display of success in the natural but none of these things matter in the spiritual realm. In fact, these things can be a hindrance and a distraction to the one who wants to be a Disciple of Christ.
To be a Disciple of Christ we must forsake all that we have and place our full faith and trust in the Finished Work of Christ on the Cross. Are you a believer in Christ or are you a Disciple of Christ?
Jesus laid it all down to……….turn the tide……….in this world.
His Disciple. Doreen
