2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has Righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

The Apostle Paul’s writings are some of the best when it comes to the subject of “How To Live A Christian Lifestyle." In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul gave this piece of sound advice. Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has Righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? (1 Corinthians 6:14)

I remember that the first time I read this Passage of Scripture (many years ago) it meant so much to me. The Holy Spirit brought understanding to my heart about the importance of not living and associating with unbelievers. Over the years, I have quoted this Scripture to many people as a warning and sound Biblical advice.

However, yesterday when the Holy Spirit took me back to this same Passage again, I saw something I had never seen before! This Passage consists of three phrases and in the past, I have seemed to skip over the middle phrase. Yesterday, the Holy Spirit emphasized it and it stood out in bold letters right before my eyes!

It reads For what fellowship has Righteousness with lawlessness? As born-again believers in Christ, we are the Righteousness of Christ. We strive to live Righteous lives. Righteousness is simply that which is right in the Eyes of God. Simply said, we want to please God and do what is Right.

Here in these seven Words, we see that Righteousness is the opposite of lawlessness. This does not only refer to God’s Laws and Commandments but also the law of the land. Unbelievers are law-breakers. They think nothing of breaking the law because they do not strive for Righteousness. Paul also wrote about this to the Romans. Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the Ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring Judgment on themselves. (Romans 13:1-2)

When we get involved with people who are not true believers in Jesus, we can easily become entangled in their schemes which are oftentimes against the law. This is so important! Be very careful about who you associate with. Use your Gift of Discernment. Watch and listen to people. Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good character. (1 Corinthians 15:33)

The warnings we find in the Word of God should be taken seriously by God’s people. God wants the best for us and in His Word, we find Divine Guidance and Advice for Righteous living. We would be well advised to heed His Advice.

Bottom line: Beware of people who break the law. Righteousness and lawlessness do not coexist. Do not associate with such people. You may very well be taken down with them. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the Ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring Judgment on themselves. (Romans 13:2)

Take God’s advice. It will……….turn the tide……...in your life.

Thank you Lord for this revelation!         Doreen
