Divine Comfort

Matthew 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

In addition to being our Teacher, Counselor, Healer, and Guide, the Holy Spirit is our Comforter. We all have times in our lives when we need to be comforted. Jesus spoke about this in His Sermon on the Mount. As He taught what we refer to as the Beatitudes, he said Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4)

Our study through the Book of Acts has brought us to the 9th Chapter where we find the Church finally in somewhat of a state of rest and peace. The persecution by the Jews had settled down a little and the turmoil within the Church due to the presence of Paul and all his past history was no longer present. Luke wrote about it and said Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had rest and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied. (Acts 9:31)

For the past few days, we have been dissecting this Verse and digging into the meaning of the Greek words. In short, we have found that at that time, the Body of Christ (the Church) throughout the area was at peace which allowed them to grow in number and in faith. They were operating in the proper fear of the Lord which is total gratitude for what Jesus had done for them and complete respect and reverence for God. Fear of the Lord is actually humility which causes us to take our eyes off ourselves and cast off all selfishness and pride. When we understand and have respect for the Power of God, all pride goes out the window.

The last word to consider in this Verse is “comfort.” As the Verse says, true Comfort comes only from the Holy Spirit. He is the Comforter. While we can comfort each other, human comfort does not compare to the Comfort of the Holy Spirit of God. Anyone who has suffered grief and has received Divine Comfort can attest to this fact.

The Holy Spirit will not bless or comfort pride and self-righteousness because it is sin. Instead, He convicts us of pride and self-righteousness and oftentimes, this is a lesson hard learned. However, when we accept His Correction THEN He will bring Comfort. This is the way God works. It always has been and it always will be. He does not change. God opposes the proud but gives Grace to the humble. (James 4:6)

God wants the best for us. He gave His Best, Jesus. All He asks in return is for us to love Him, respect Him, and give Him all the glory, honor, and praise. When we humble ourselves and lift Him up, the Holy Spirit of God will bring comfort to our lives, unlike anything we have ever known before.

God loves you. He wants the very best for you. He sent His Son to suffer and die on the Cross of Calvary so you can be set free from the penalty and power of sin in your life. Take your pride and self-righteousness to the Cross and lay it all down. In trade, God will give you humility which will result in Peace, Joy, and Comfort. It’s a no-brainer, my friends.

God wants to……….turn the tide……..in your world.

So grateful,          Doreen
