Divine Correction

Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.

Jesus had nothing good to say about the church in Laodicea. They were lukewarm, prideful, greedy, and arrogant, believing that they were in need of nothing. (Revelation 3:17)

For the past few days, we have been discussing Jesus’ Remedy for all that ailed them. His Remedy was found in Himself. I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. (Revelation 3:18)

Everything they needed could be found in faith in Jesus and His Finished Work on the Cross because all that they suffered with was sin and Jesus nailed ALL sin to the Cross. And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumscision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the Cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:13-15)

The Laodiceans were rich in that they had a lot of money, earthly goods, and the finest clothes money could buy but Jesus found them to be wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked. (Revelation 3:17) In this letter, Jesus took them to the woodshed and gave them a whipping and this is what needs to happen to the majority of the church today!

In the next statement, Jesus told them that although their actions and attitude made Him sick to His stomach (Revelation 3:16) He still loved them. Therefore, He rebuked them and chastened them. This means He disciplined them and told them where they were going wrong and gave them the Remedy for what they were doing. Then He said, As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. (Revelation 3:19)

The writer of Hebrews said And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives. (Hebrews 12:5-6)

We are all children of God. Therefore, as needed, He will bring correction to our lives. He does this through His Word and the Voice, Guidance, and Counsel of the Holy Spirit. We have a wonderful Heavenly Father Who wants the very best for all of us. That’s why He rebukes and chastens us. While it is painful, we should be grateful because, without His correcting, we would drift farther and farther off track and lose our way.

God’s chastening will…...….turn the tide……….in your life.

Thank you Lord for bringing correction to my life.         Doreen
