Acts 10:15 And the Voice spoke unto him again the second time, what God has cleansed, do not call common.
After receiving the Vision and Word from the Lord, Peter argued with God because the Message went against everything he had ever known. As we discussed yesterday, the Old Covenant had been fulfilled by Jesus on the Cross of Calvary. He paid the price required by God for the sins of the entire world but Peter and all the Jews simply could not come to grips with that truth. The Law was all they knew and they were bound to forever live by it.
Peter was present when Jesus said, Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. (Matthew 5:17) He was there when Jesus was Crucified. He felt the earth shake when Jesus said, It is finished. He knew the Veil in the Temple had been torn in two. He knew all this but he still felt as though he had to keep the Law. So, he argued with God. Not so, Lord, for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean. (Acts 10:14)
God repeated Himself. And the Voice spoke unto him again the second time, what God has cleansed, do not call common. (Acts 10:15) In effect, Peter was telling God that the Blood of Jesus which was shed on the Cross of Calvary was not enough to fulfill the Law. How foolish of Peter to say such a thing!
How foolish is it of us to try to do enough good works to gain Salvation? How foolish is it of us to think that if we read three Chapters of the Bible every day we will be Sanctified? How foolish is it to believe that if we fast for twenty-one days we will be set free from the sin nature? How foolish indeed?
Jesus paid it all once and for all on the Cross of Calvary. What He did is enough. We cannot add anything to it. How arrogant to believe that we have something to add to what the Son of God has done!
My friends, the Law has been fulfilled. God has put in place a New Covenant and it is not limited to the Jews. It is for all people everywhere who will choose to believe Jesus died on the Cross for them. Then the Angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be TO ALL PEOPLE. For there is born to you this day in the City of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:10-11)
God sent His Son to die on the Cross because we are all sinners and in desperate need of a Savior. He did it! He willingly went to the Cross and paid the price God the Father required for sin. He did it for you and me. Without Him, we would be nothing. Without Him, we would be dreadful sinners destined to spend eternity in Hell.
Stop trying to do what Jesus has already done. His Finished Work was enough. Believe it!
His Finished Work will……….turn the tide……..in the life of whosoever believes.
I believe! Doreen
