Expose The Darkness

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.

As we learned yesterday, Philip took the Gospel of Christ to Samaria. When he arrived he found a man named Simon who had been practicing various forms of witchcraft and the Samaritans believed him to be of God. But, when they heard the Truth of the Gospel of Christ and witnessed Divine Miracles, Signs, and Wonders, they knew they had been sitting under the ministry of the devil. They turned from Simon the sorcerer toward Philip the Evangelist and were all saved. The Truth set them free!

Philip recognized immediately that Simon was not of God. Philip knew this man was a minister of Satan but did he call him out? No. Did he make a public spectacle of him? No. Was he scared of the demonic spirits that were ministering in Samaria and leave? No.

What did Philip do? He did exactly what the Holy Spirit of God led him to do. He preached the Truth of the Gospel of Christ and allowed the Holy Spirit to do the rest. What a lesson for Preachers, Teachers, and Evangelists today! The enemy is at work in the world like never before.

Every form of witchcraft and sorcery we can imagine is being used to steal, kill, and destroy people. What is the response from the Church? Some Preachers will spend all their time exposing these evil ones and not preach the Truth of the Gospel at all. In most cases, time is limited so there is no time allotted for the Holy Spirit to do anything except stand by outside the doors of the Church and wait for an invitation to enter and do something Miraculous in the lives of those present.

The Apostle Paul does give some instructions on this. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. (Ephesians 5:11) How do we expose the darkness? By shining the Light. All we have to do is share the Light of the Gospel of Christ and the darkness will be exposed. This is the Work of the Holy Spirit, not us. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. (John 1:5) Jesus said, Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven. (Matthew 5:16)

This is exactly what Philip did and look at the result! The whole city was saved including Simon the sorcerer himself! Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the Miracles and Signs which were done. (Acts 8:13)

Evil is everywhere today. We cannot defeat it but we can expose it by shining the Light of Jesus Christ. The Light WILL expose the darkness of this world. Let your light shine!

The Light will…...….turn the tide
