1 Samuel 1:22 Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice

Our study of the Book of Acts has revealed God’s Plan for His Church which consists of all born-again believers. In studying the 4th Chapter, we have learned that Peter and John were faithful to the leading of the Holy Spirit no matter the cost.

They were put in prison and brought before the Sanhedrin for sentencing. They had done nothing wrong except come against the religious leadership. They did not waver in their faith or their stand for Christ. They stood strong in the face of the highest court in the land and spoke the words the Holy Spirit put in their mouths. Standing with them was the evidence for their case. That evidence was proof positive that the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ performs Miracles. The proof was the healed man who had been crippled since birth.

Peter and John understood that the Sanhedrin could sentence them to death but they still obeyed the Voice of the Holy Spirit. Obedience is what God is looking for in His children. All He asks for in us is faith and obedience.

I am reminded of the old hymn, Trust and Obey. This hymn was written by a man named John Sammis who was born in 1846 and died in 1919. This man understood the importance of faith and obedience and out of his heart, he wrote the following words: When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word what a Glory He sheds on our way! Let us do His Good Will He abides with us still and with all who will trust and obey. (Verse 2) Not a burden we bear. Not a sorrow we share, but our toil He doth richly repay; Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross, but is blessed if we trust and obey. (Verse 3) But we never can prove the delights of His love until all on the altar we lay, for the favor He shows and the joy He bestows are for them who will trust and obey. (Verse 4)Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet or we'll walk by His side in the way, What He says we will do, where He sends we will go; Never fear, only trust and obey. (Chorus) Trust and obey for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

That’s it my friends! That’s all God asks of us. To trust Him is to have faith in the Finished Work of Christ on the Cross of Calvary. To obey is simply that; to do what the Holy Spirit of God tells you to do.

Peter and John believed in Jesus. They had faith and they placed their entire trust in that faith. This undying, unwavering faith caused them to act in total obedience to the Voice and Leading of the Holy Spirit. They stood strong against the establishment because their stand was RIGHT!

God calls us to Righteousness. Faith and Obedience to the Word of God is Righteousness.

Trust and obey. God is about to……….turn the tide

I will stand in obedience,         Doreen
