First Fruits

John 10:10 I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly.

As we continue our study of the fulfillment of the Feast Days by Jesus, we come to the Feast of First Fruits which is celebrated on the third day after Passover. This Feast is in remembrance of God’s Provision. It dates back to when God provided manna for the Israelites every day while they were in the wilderness.

The Old Testament Israelites were farmers. Every year after harvest some seeds fall to the ground to grow again the following year. When spring came these seeds would sprout out of the ground and new plants would grow. The farmer would work the ground and tend to the new plants. When the plants matured they would produce the crop ready for harvest and the cycle would begin again.

The first fruits of their labor were offered to the Lord as commanded by God. The first of the first fruits of your land you shall bring into the house of the Lord your God. (Exodus 23:19) Knowing that God is the Provider, the faithful bring the first of the harvest back to Him as an offering. And it shall be, when you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you possess it and dwell in it, that you shall take some of the first of all the produce of the ground, which you shall bring from your land that the Lord your God is giving you, and put it in a basket and go to the place where the Lord your God chooses to make His Name abide. (Deuteronomy 26:1-2)

The Israelites understood the law of sowing and reaping. They knew God would bless them with more if they gave their best to Him. They believed the result of their first fruits offering would be God’s Promise of Abundant Blessings.

Jesus is God’s First Fruit. He is God’s one and only Son; God’s best. He is the fulfillment of God’s Promise of Abundant Blessings to come. His Resurrection on the Third Day is the fulfillment of the Feast of First Fruits which was celebrated on the third day after Passover.

Jesus declared Himself to be God’s Promise of Abundant Life for those who choose to believe. I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly. (John 10:10) When Jesus rose from the dead He was the first fruits of the coming Resurrection or Rapture of the Church. Paul wrote Jesus represents God’s fulfilled Promise as the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. (1 Corinthians 15:20)

God offered His First Fruits to us on the Cross of Calvary. Jesus was the Perfect Passover Lamb, the Blood on the doorpost, the Unleavened Bread, and the Promise of Abundance as the First Fruits. He fulfilled these Feasts so we can bask in His Provision and Abundance. Hallelujah!

Faith in Christ will…...….turn the tide……..in your life.

Praise God!         Doreen
