Matthew 4:19 Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.
The Lord spoke to Abram and told him to leave his home and his family and go to a place He would show him. Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land I will show thee. (Genesis 12:1) Out of obedience to God and his longing to be closer to the Lord, Abram obeyed the Voice of God. He left his father’s home and his family and traveled to an unknown place. God took him out of his comfort zone.
When Jesus called His first four Disciples to follow Him they left their comfort zones as well. And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him. (Matthew 4:18-22)
Peter, Andrew, James, and John were all professional fishermen. This was their trade; how they made a living. They were good at their job. Fishing came easy to them. Fishing was their comfort zone but like Abram, God called them out, and like Abram, they followed Him.
James and John were very close to their father. They worked with him. It would appear as if they were in business together since Zebedee was in the boat with them when Jesus called them. But, the Word tells us that they immediately left the boat and their father and followed Jesus. There was no hesitation on their part.
When we hear the Call of God on our lives, we know it. How we respond is the important part. God has a Plan and a Purpose for everyone but not everyone responds in obedience. When we refuse to obey God’s Voice we are operating in the flesh and seeking to please ourselves and not God. How many times will God call us? This we don’t know. We do know that the Gifts and Callings of God are without repentance which means they are always there but how we respond to God’s Call will determine our eternal destiny.
I have decided to follow Jesus. I have decided to follow Jesus. I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back; no turning back. Though none go with me, I still will follow. Though none go with me, I still will follow. Though none go with me, I still will follow, no turning back; no turning back.
God wants to……..….turn the tide……….in your life.
No turning back. Doreen
