From Wretched To Royalty

Psalm 35:9-10 And My soul shall be joyful in the Lord; It shall rejoice in His Salvation. All My bones shall say, “Lord, who is like You, delivering the poor from him who is too strong for him, Yes, the poor and the needy from him who plunders him?”

As we continue to study the 35th Psalm, as our Founding Fathers did at the first Continental Congress in 1774 under the spiritual guidance of Rev. Duche, remember it is the Person of Jesus and the Spirit of Jesus Christ in the believer, that is petitioning the Father.

Who is “the poor” the Holy Spirit speaks of in this Passage of Scripture?

The Holy Spirit inspired David to write these words. David was a sinful man. Among many other things, he committed adultery with Bathsheba and then arranged for the murder of her husband. On the “sin scale” David was a poor man. BUT, God forgave him and delivered him from his life of sin and he went on to be the only man known as “the man after God’s own heart.” (Acts 13:22)

David could speak these words and write them down because he knew the Power of God to deliver the sinful man and bring about joy in his life. God delivered David from, wretched to royalty.

The Person of Jesus appeared to be a poor man. Born in a stable, the son of a carpenter, Jesus was considered poor in the flesh. The attack on His Life was enormous and believed to be successful. BUT, God raised Him up from the grave and delivered Him to sit at the Right Hand Throne of the Father!  God delivered Jesus from poor to the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS!

We are all sinners and in this regard, “poor.”  By the Grace of God, we have been delivered from sin and it is the Spirit of Christ within us that brings us Joy! As the great song goes, Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind but now I see.

Like David, we have been delivered from wretched to royalty. The Apostle Paul said, we are sons of God through Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:26) Peter said, But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; (1 Peter 2:9)

The Spirit of Christ within us brings us Joy in the Lord and we rejoice in our Salvation. Every bone in our body knows there is no Power like the Power of God to deliver us (the poor) from the enemy who appears to be too strong. Just as God the Father delivered Jesus (who in the flesh appeared poor) from the dead, He will deliver those who have the Spirit of Christ within them from those who plunder them. It is the Spirit of Christ within us, our enemy (the spirit of the anti-christ) seeks to destroy. As we allow the Spirit of Christ to well up in our spirit, we will see the Power of God fight on our behalf. The Spirit of Christ CANNOT and WILL NOT be defeated.

And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. (Revelation 12:9)

Let the Spirit of Christ rise up and we will see God……….turn the tide
