Fully Saturated

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

As we discussed yesterday, every person in the group of believers that was gathered together on the Day of Pentecost was filled with the Holy Spirit. No one was excluded. This did not only pertain to the Apostles as some believe.

To gain a proper understanding of this Scripture, the verb “filled” must be examined further. This word is the action word of the first phrase and describes what happened to them all that day. The Greek word for filled is pletho which has two meanings. It means to soak up like a sponge or to imbue, influence, supply, accomplish, furnish.

This definition brings a whole new meaning to this Scripture. It takes it far beyond just being filled like filling a glass with water, although when we are “filled” with the Holy Spirit, our whole vessel (all of us) is filled which is a very good picture.

However, when we consider the other definitions in the Greek language we see so much more. God intends for us to soak up the Holy Spirit like a sponge. That is to be totally saturated with Him; His Presence and His Power. Not just for an hour on Sunday mornings and occasionally during the week but all the time, consistently, all day long, every day.

A Holy Spirit filled person is like a saturated sponge that never dries up. Every time it is touched, the water comes out. The slightest amount of pressure on any part of the sponge causes the contents to flow from the sponge. Everywhere the sponge sets it leaves behind some water.

This “water” of the Holy Spirit will imbue, influence, supply, accomplish and furnish all our needs in life and for our ministry. The Holy Spirit is the Power of God to do all this for us and through us. Jesus went to the Cross so we can be filled with the Holy Spirit like He was.

We have been Saved, Called, Gifted, and Filled with the Holy Spirit so we may continue the Work and Ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. That is the Purpose of the Church and that’s why we are alive at this time in history. It is not by accident that we live today. We are here because God intended us to be here. We have each been given an assignment for the Kingdom of God. To accomplish what God has created us to do, we must be like a sponge, totally and completely saturated with the Holy Spirit of God. Without Him, we are powerless.

The Holy Spirit is the Power of God to……….turn the tide

Thank you Jesus for sending the Holy Spirit, Doreen
