Mark 16:15-18 Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My Name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.
After Jesus was Crucified, buried, and Resurrected, He appeared to well over 500 people. During this time He performed many Miracles and continued to teach His followers. He knew He would be going to be with His Father so He gave them instructions as to what they were to do after He was gone. We refer to these instructions as the Great Commission.
Matthew and Mark both recorded some of Jesus’ teaching about this. We find it in Matthew 28:18-20 and Mark 16:15-18. While the Passage found in Matthew is most commonly referred to, the Words we find in Mark give more detail.
Matthew wrote: Go ye therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:18-20)
Mark wrote: Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15-18)
The Words of Jesus are His Commands to us. When we compile the two accounts together, we get the entire Great Commission. We are to GO into all the world and preach the Gospel. This means everywhere. It does not mean that everyone has to be a foreign missionary because the world speaks of anywhere there are unsaved people and we don’t have to leave our country to find them.
The moment you leave your church parking lot, you are entering the mission field. The grocery store is the mission field. The gym is the mission field. Your school is the mission field. The park where we take our children and walk our dogs is the mission field. The fact is, there are spiritually lost people everywhere we turn and they all need to know about Jesus and the price He paid for them to be saved and born again.
Over the next few days, we will continue to dissect the Words of Jesus concerning the Great Commission. I pray you are convicted to live these Words out in your daily life. As followers of Jesus, we are to live a life of total obedience to Him and His Commandments to us. This means to be as much like Jesus as we can every day, all day long. Jesus ministered to people everywhere He went. We are commissioned by Him to do the same.
It’s time to be about the Father’s Business which is to obey the Word of His Son, Jesus Christ, Who said, GO and preach the Gospel!
Obedience to these Words will…...….turn the tide……….in your life.
Going out! Doreen
