1 John 4:4 Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.
Herod had killed the Apostle James and arrested Peter chaining him to two soldiers and commanding 16 more soldiers to guard him. Herod also made it clear that he was about to make a great spectacle of Jesus Christ by putting Peter to death in a public display. This was like a big game to Herod and the people would come from all around to watch him die in an arena.
That was Herod’s evil plan and it would bring him much notoriety, but that was not God’s Plan for Peter and God’s Plan will always win out over Satan’s. God simply sent an Angel to release Peter and set him free. The Angel did not have to fight the soldiers or confront Herod. He simply did what God instructed Him to do and that was it! Peter was a free man no longer held by the chains of the Devil’s man, Herod.
Many times in life we find ourselves in the grip of the enemy. The circumstances don’t matter. It may be a family matter, financial, social, or a situation at school or work but whatever it is, it’s real and it seems as though we are doomed. At times like this there appears to be no way out.
I’m sure that’s what Peter felt as he sat in the dungeon chained to two soldiers and guarded by sixteen more. Peter knew what Herod had planned which was to make a human spectacle out of him, resulting in his death. Herod’s plan was probably to put Peter in the arena and turn the hungry lions in to rip him to shreds as thousands of people cheered from the arena seats. They called this “games” and Peter was to be the game toy for the hungry lions and entertainment for the crowd that would gather to watch.
BUT GOD said “No! Not this time Satan.” Instead, God made a public spectacle of Herod! He ended up being embarrassed and publicly humiliated causing him to leave town. And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode. (Acts 12:19)
The enemy is against us, but God is for us! What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)
Don’t worry, God can……….turn the tide
God is for us! Doreen
