God Hates The Abominable

Psalms 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

Our study of God’s Pattern for His Church has taken us through the Book of Acts and into the Book of Revelation. To discover what God desires of His people, sometimes we must examine what He does not desire. God’s Word is clear on this subject. God either loves something or He hates it. There is no gray area. God is dogmatic; right is right and wrong is wrong. No one can paint evil with white paint and make it good.

Therefore, we would be well advised to understand those things that God refers to as an abomination in His Eyes and shape our lifestyle around those things. In Revelation 21:7-8 we read, But the fearful, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

We spent a few days discussing the first thing on the list which is fear. Yesterday, we addressed the subject of unbelief. This brings us to number three which are those that God sees as abominable. Webster’s Dictionary provides the following list of synonyms for abominable. Loathsome; detestable; hateful; odious; obnoxious; despicable; contemptible; damnable; cursed; accursed; diabolical; disgusting; revolting; repulsive; offensive; repugnant; abhorrent; reprehensible; atrocious; horrifying; foul; vile; wretched; horrible; awful, dreadful; appalling; brutal. To put it in a nutshell, abominable is evil; not good, and the Lord God Almighty hates it all.

In the Book of Proverbs, Solomon (the wisest man to ever live) gives us a list of things God refers to as abominable. A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that swiftly run to mischief, a false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren. (Proverbs 6:17-19)

These things are included in God’s definition of abominable and Jesus said, that those who are such shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

We would all be well advised to consider all these things and if we find any of this in our own lives, repent. God knows our hearts and He also knows our actions. His Mercy endures forever (Psalms 118) and it is His Will that none should perish because He desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the Truth. (1 Timothy 2:4)

God has given us His Word to live by. He means every Word written there. He keeps every Promise He ever made. If God’s Word says those who are abominable will not make Heaven their home but spend eternity in the Lake of Fire, He means exactly that. There will be no negotiating with God. We won’t be able to talk Him out of it. There are no second chances on the other side of death.

Today is the day of repentance. Search your heart for anything in your life that is not pleasing to the Lord and repent of these things. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

David understood this. That’s why he wrote this song: Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23-24)

Repent. The Kingdom of God is at hand. God is about to……….turn the tide
