1 John 4:4 Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.
Yesterday, we discussed the incident when the Angel of the Lord facilitated the release of Peter from prison. Herod had him chained to two soldiers at all times and ordered four quaternions of soldiers to guard him. This made up a total of 18 men guarding Peter but one Angel of the Lord walked him to safety outside the city gate.
There are two factors to this incident: the natural and the spiritual. This absolutely happened in the natural and it is proof that Angels do exist and God uses them to perform supernatural things in our lives. So, Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained Angels unawares. (Hebrews 13:2)
While supernatural happenings are phenomenal, the spiritual implications are always far greater. Peter had done nothing wrong. His only crime was proclaiming the Gospel of Christ. Because of this, he was imprisoned by Herod who ordered that he be chained and heavily guarded. Herod had killed James the day before and I’m sure it was his plan to have Peter killed as well.
Herod is the representation of the world which hates Jesus Christ. The world has always done everything it can to destroy the Church and all followers of Christ. This was the demonic spirit of Antichrist at work in Herod back then and it is still at work today. All you have to do is watch the news to know that the world hates the Word of God and Jesus Christ. The thief comes but to steal, kill, and destroy. (John 10:10)
The spiritual lesson here is that no matter how much the world puts on us or tries to bind us up and shut us up, the Holy Spirit (represented by the Angel) is so much more powerful! Even though Herod (the world) had Peter chained and guarded by 16 soldiers, the Angel simply told Peter to get up and get dressed. Then the Angel escorted him outside the iron city gate to freedom!
Believers today may feel like they are in prison behind iron bars, but we must not lose hope! The Power of God is far, far greater than anything Satan and the world have to offer. Never forget that Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
The Power of God will…..…….turn the tide
I believe it! Doreen
