Luke 7:22 Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the Gospel preached to them.
In the King James Version of the Bible, we find the word “poor” 199 times. We think of this word as meaning the lack of money and material goods and in some cases in the Scriptures, it does mean this. However, the word “poor” has another meaning in the Word of God and it has to do with a person’s spiritual condition.
Jesus said, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has Anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor……..(Luke 4:18) Did Jesus come only to preach the Gospel to those who had no money? Of course not. In this case, Jesus was referring to those people who did not know God; those who were poor in spirit.
Today we call these people lost because without Jesus they do not know the Way to the Father and they spend their entire lives wandering around in the dark in search of Peace. Jesus is known as the Prince of Peace. He is the ONLY source of Peace for mankind. Without Him, there is anxiety, turmoil, and chaos. Only through faith in Jesus and His Finished Work on the Cross of Calvary, do we know real Peace. And the Peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)
When Jesus walked this earth as a man there was world peace. During that 33 1/2 year period of time, there was no war on earth. When He returns to be King during the 1,000-year Kingdom Age, there will be no war anywhere on earth because the Prince of Peace will rule and reign over the entire earth.
Those people who know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord can know this Peace now. While they may not have great amounts of money and live in big, beautiful mansions, they are spiritually rich because their faith in the Finished Work of Christ on the Cross provides them with everything they need.
The great Prophet Isaiah spoke these Words of the Lord: Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. (Isaiah 55:1)
Faith in Christ Crucified is all we need in this life. He is my everything, my all in all. He is my everything, both great and small. He gave His Life for me, made everything new. He is my everything, now how about you?
Jesus gave His everything to……..….turn the tide ……….in your life.
He is my everything, Doreen
