Hear And Receive

Proverbs 4:10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of your life shall be many.

Solomon said, Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings. Today we would say, Listen to me and believe what I am telling you.

There is much in the Bible about hearing but in Proverbs, Solomon takes it a step further and says, Hear, O my son, and RECEIVE. It’s not enough to just hear the Words of Wisdom. We can’t just let them go in one ear and out the other. What we hear must remain in our minds so we can take it to heart and put it to use in our daily lives. When we do this we will receive the promise of a long life; the years of your life shall be many.

Much of what we receive from God, including the Wisdom of God, comes from our willingness to hear and receive. The great Apostle Paul wrote a lot about the importance of hearing. The following are a few examples.

Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Here we see that faith comes by hearing the Word of God. If you are seeking greater faith, go to the Word of God. Read it. Listen to it preached. Hear it and RECEIVE it into your inner self. It will renew your mind.

In Paul’s letter to the Galatians, he asks this pointed question: This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? (Galatians 3:2) Paul is reminding them (and us) that they were born again and received the Spirit by hearing the Gospel preached and the testimony of himself and others.

In Galatians 3:3-4, Paul admonishes the reader to understand how they came to be saved, born again, and sanctified. He does this by asking a few more questions. Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? Have you suffered so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? In Verse 5 Paul writes one more question to remind them that it was by HEARING the Word of God and the testimonies of others that they received the Promise of God. He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the HEARING of faith?

Jesus also spoke about the importance of hearing. Several times He said, He who has ears to hear, let him hear! In Matthew 13:15 Jesus recalled the Words of the great Prophet, Isaiah, which are as true today as when they were written 750 years prior, For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn so that I should heal them.

Have we allowed our hearts to become dull? Have our ears become hard of hearing? Have we closed our eyes? I pray not. Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings. Listen to the Truth of God’s Word. Receive it into your heart. You will receive the many Promises of God. Solomon said the years of your life shall be many. Paul said Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, Jesus said, So that I should heal them. All this comes by way of HEARING and RECEIVING. Hallelujah!

Hearing and receiving the Word of God will……..….turn the tide...........in your life.
