His Name Is Wonderful

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

The great Prophet Isaiah gave Jesus the Name/Title WONDERFUL. To gain a proper understanding of this Name we must take a look at the Hebrew word which is pala. The meaning is “something uncommon or out of the ordinary; a phenomenon lying outside the realm of human explanation; that which is separated from the normal course of events; something that cannot be explained.”

The definition of the English word Wonderful is something, some place, or someone full of wonder; marvelous, astonishing; not common; amazing; astounding; awesome; fabulous; marvelous; miraculous; portentous; staggering; stunning; stupendous; sublime; surprising; wondrous. All these definitions and synonyms describe Jesus. He is all this and so much more!

The Life of Jesus was a series of Miracles, Signs, and Wonders. His Ministry on earth consisted of Salvation, Healing, and Deliverance all of which are extraordinary, Miraculous, and indeed wonderful. His Resurrection and Ascension were the most awesome events in human history. Everything about Jesus causes people to stand in complete wonderment. Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by Miracles, Wonders, and Signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know. (Acts 2:22)

The next Event will be His Return for His Bride, the Church. The whole world will be brought to its knees in wonderment when Jesus returns to Rapture His Church. But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the Word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the Coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from Heaven with a shout, with the Voice of an Archangel, and with the Trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these Words. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

Yes, Jesus is WONDERFUL in every sense of the word. I must conclude this Morning Message with the words of two of my favorite hymns. The first was written in 1890 by Fanny Crosby. In the first and second verses, she calls Jesus her Wonderful Savior.

(Verse 1) A Wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord, a Wonderful Savior to me. He hideth my soul in the cleft of the Rock, where rivers of pleasure I see. (Verse 2) A Wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord; He taketh my burden away. He holdeth me up, and I shall not be moved; He giveth me strength as my day.

In 1959, Audrey Mieir wrote a beautiful song entitled “His Name Is Wonderful.” It simply says, His Name is Wonderful. His Name is Wonderful. His Name is Wonderful, Jesus my Lord.

Yes, His Name is Wonderful! Only He can………..turn the tide……..in this world!
