John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
The Message Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost was meant to prove that Jesus was the Son of God; the Messiah; the One the Prophets spoke of centuries earlier. The goal was to see the Jewish people come to faith in Christ and surrender their lives to Him as Lord and Savior. This is supposed to still be the goal today.
Peter set about doing this by reminding them of things they already knew. These people had seen Jesus in the flesh. Many of them had probably heard Him speak and watch Him perform Miracles. They may have been in the crowd that day chanting, Crucify Him. Crucify Him. (Mark 15:13-14)
Many of them may have been there to actually witness His Crucifixion. They watched as Jesus was nailed to the Cross. They saw the guard pierce His side with a sword. They heard His last Words, It is finished. (John 19:30) They watched Jesus die and stood by as His Body was carried off and placed in the tomb by Joseph of Arimathea. (John 19:38) But that’s not all!
When Jesus was raised from the dead, He appeared to more than 500 people over a forty day period and the people hearing the words of Peter on the Day of Pentecost, could have very well been a part of this group. These folks were eyewitnesses to all this and yet they STILL did not believe He was the Messiah!
However, God did not give up on them. He wanted them to repent and come to Salvation and the ONLY way for this to happen was for them to place their faith in Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. So, knowing they would all come to the Temple on the Day of Pentecost to celebrate the Law on the Feast Day, God set them up to hear the Words of the Holy Spirit spoken through Peter.
The people were there. The Holy Spirit gave Peter the words to speak that would make believers out of them. Peter was obedient and spoke what the Holy Spirit told him to speak and 3,000 were saved that day!
My friends, this is what happened on the Day of Pentecost 2,000 years ago and this is what can still happen if God’s people will be obedient to the Voice of God. This is a part of God’s Pattern for His Church. It worked then and it will work now.
Be still and listen for the Voice of the Holy Spirit. Be still and know that I am God. (Psalms 46:10) Go where He tells you to go. Do what He tells you to do. Speak not your own words but the Words He gives you. The Holy Spirit is your Helper in regard to absolutely EVERYTHING! Remember these Words of Jesus: But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. (John 14:26)
God’s Pattern for His people will…...….turn the tide
