Holy House Guest

Romans 8:5-6 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and Peace.

No one can be a Christian without having the Holy Spirit in their lives. The Holy Spirit is a Person; one of the Three Persons of the Godhead. He dwells in the heart and life of every born again believer in Christ. To reject the Holy Spirit is to reject God and that is a very dangerous position to take.

Everything about the Holy Spirit is Good. He is the Person of God Who teaches, guides, counsels and helps us in every aspect of our lives. Personally, I can’t understand why anyone would want to reject Him, but some do.

When we are saved and the Holy Spirit moves in, He brings with Him many wonderful Gifts for us. Think about having a wonderful house guest who comes to live in your home. This person not only knows everything about everything, He is all-giving and all-willing to help you in whatever you may need, in every area of your life. And, He has all the tools and ability to do it all perfectly!

In addition to all this, He NEVER gets angry or tired. Nor does He lose His patience or ever make a mistake! You don’t have to cook for Him, wash His clothes or clean up after Him. The only thing He asks of you is to allow Him to do what He does, listen to Him and do what He tells you to do. He comes only to bring knowledge, guidance, counseling and help to you. Wow! What a house guest that would be!

If you are a born again believer in the Finished Work of the Lord Jesus Christ, you have this House Guest living inside you! He is there! Where is He?, you ask. He is wherever you have confined Him to but, trust me, He is there somewhere. All you have to do is call on Him and He will answer.

Jesus called Him our Helper. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. (John 14:26) We are conditioned to call on professionals when we need help. If we are having financial problems, we call a financial consultant. If our marriage is struggling, we call a marriage counselor. If we are sick, we call a doctor. If our house is falling down, we call a building contractor. If we want to sell our home we call a professional realtor. If we need a job, we go to an employment agency. In every case, when we don’t know these professionals personally, we seek advice from our family and friends. We take their recommendation and make the call for professional help. This is a picture of life for the average person, both Christian and non-Christian.

However, this is not God’s Plan for His children. We have all the Help we need living right in our house! All we have to do is ask. At times the Holy Spirit will refer us to a good doctor, lawyer, or accountant. God has always worked through people to help His children. Other times the Holy Spirit will refer us to the Word of God for the answer we seek.

The Apostle Paul put it like this: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the Peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

Don’t worry about it. Ask for help. Be grateful that God hears your prayers. Give it up to the Holy Spirit to fix. You can’t do it. He can and He wants to help you.

Ask and God will……….turn the tide……….in your life.

So grateful!       Doreen
