Luke 6:48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.
When we are saved and born again, the Holy Spirit moves into us and starts to work. Last week we referred to Him as our Holy House Guest who has come to “fix” everything wrong with our “house.” So, the question is: If we are saved and born again why do we suffer with the same issues we did prior to our salvation?
The answer to this question lies in what we allow the Holy Spirit to lay His Hands on. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if an all around handyman offered to come to your house and fix everything you needed fixed? He would start with the obvious issues like a leaky roof, broken windows, holes in the walls, paint, new cabinets, flooring, etc.
When all those problems were repaired, the house looks a whole lot better, but the occupants are still not satisfied because there are some problems that cannot be seen by the naked eye. These are the underlying, hidden issues that have caused all the other problems over the years.
Example: If the foundation is falling, all the new floor covering in the world will not fix the problem. The foundation is the cause of all the other issues upstairs and must be repaired before the house will be sound. However, the homeowner must trust the repairman enough to give him permission to jack up the whole house, remove everything that is damaged and replace it with new, strong material that will make for a sound foundation for the rest of the house. Then that structure will stand against the test of time and severe storms.
And so it is with our spiritual house. The Holy Spirit has the ability to fix all our deep, underlying issues and hurts that cause the problems that torment us. These things are the sins and hurts from our past that we have hidden away in a back closet of our heart somewhere. They may have been there for years causing much pain and suffering. These are the things the Holy Spirit wants to lay His Hands on, but we must give Him permission to do so.
Like everything else in our spiritual walk, it’s all about faith. Do you have enough faith to give the Holy Spirit the key to every room and closet in your house? Do you trust His ability to remove and repair everything that is rotten and damaged and replace it with new, strong, sound material? He WILL do it if you let Him. It’s your house. The choice is yours.
Give Him the keys. He will completely……….turn the tide……..in your life.
I give Him the keys, Doreen
