Ephesians 2:8-9 For by Grace you have been saved through fqith, and that not of yourselves; it is the Gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Yesterday, we began a discussion on will-power. The Dictionary defines will-power as a person’s ability to control their own actions. Psychology says that if we believe in ourselves strongly enough, we can do anything. This thought process is adverse to Biblical Christianity.
The Scripture we focused on yesterday was Romans 7:15-20. In this Passage we find the Apostle Paul admitted that as educated and strong as he was, he did not have enough will-power to overcome sin. The truth is, no one does. Faith in one’s self will never be enough to overcome sin.
This is why God sent Jesus to die on the Cross for the sins of the world. If we could overcome sin by our own strength, Jesus would not have had to go to the Cross of Calvary. To say we can overcome sin by our own will-power is to call the Crucifixion of Christ unnecessary and worthless.
Faith in ourselves and our will-power is not enough for us to have victory over sin. Try as we may, we will fail every time. Do you honestly believe your will-power is more powerful than the shed Blood of Christ? That is arrogance at its highest level. However, faith in the Finished Work of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary will work every time.
When Paul finally understood the importance of placing his faith in Christ Crucified he wrote For by Grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the Gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
If you really want to be set free from the sin that torments you, understand that Jesus nailed that sin to the Cross and defeated it there for you. When you truly understand this, you will stop trying to do what Jesus has already done. Place your faith in the Finished Work of Christ on the Cross. Stop looking to yourself for strength.
This, my friends, is the true Message of the Cross. Jesus paid it all so we can have Victory over sin. Hallelujah!
Faith in Christ Crucified will……….turn the tide……….in your life.
Praise Jesus! Doreen
