2 Peter 1:3 His Divine Power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.
Repentance has been the lifestyle of believers from the beginning. In Old Testament times, the sacrifices the people offered were a form of repentance. They knew they were sinners and they brought the required sacrifices to the Temple to be forgiven.
They did this daily because they sinned daily. The people took sacrifices to the Temple where the Priest would examine them and offer them on the Altar. The blood of the animal had to be spilled to issue forgiveness. The Spirit of God has always dwelled in the Temple.
Under the New Covenant, we ARE the Temple and the Spirit of God dwells in us! Do you not know that you are the Temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16) Jesus was the final Sacrifice for sins. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:2) Jesus shed His Perfect Blood on the Cross for the sins of the world. The Cross is the Altar where the Sacrificial Blood was shed.
He is also our High Priest who makes intercession for us. Just as the Priest did in Old Testament times, Jesus does this for us today. We are the Temple and the Holy Spirit of God (the Presence of God) dwells with us as does our High Priest, Jesus Christ. The Sacrifice has already been made. All we have to do is believe it and place our faith in it.
In Old Testament times, the people believed in the Sacrificial System. They believed in the position of the High Priest who made intercession for them. They believed that God would forgive them if they kept the Laws of the Covenant. This was the basis of their faith in God and like Abraham, God accounted his faith to him for Righteousness. (Romans 4:3)
As New Testament believers, everything we need for Salvation, Justification, and Sanctification is provided for us through our faith in the Finished Work of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary. It was there that Jesus made the final Blood Sacrifice for anyone who will believe. It’s still all about faith but the object of our faith is no longer in the animal sacrifice, Priest, building, or Altar. Our faith is placed squarely in Jesus because He was the sacrifice.
The Cross of Calvary was the Altar. Jesus is our High Priest. Since then we have a great High Priest who has passed through the Heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. (Hebrews 4:14) The Holy Spirit is the Presence of God and He dwells within us because we are the Temple. Do you not know that you are the Temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16)
Everything we need is within each of us personally and our faith in Jesus will unleash it all. His Divine Power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue. (2 Peter 1:3)
Jesus paid it all to…...….turn the tide……..in your life.
Thank you Jesus! Doreen
