1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.
When we study the Word of God and consider the world around us today, we must conclude that we are indeed living in the latter times; the last of the Last Days. The Apostle Paul wrote two letters to young Timothy, who was like a son to Paul. These two short letters contain some extremely powerful Words inspired by the Holy Spirit.
In the 4th Chapter of 1 Timothy, Paul writes of how the Church will be in the Last Days. Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, (1 Timothy 4:1)
Paul begins this Passage by reminding us that these Words are not his words but those given expressly by the Holy Spirit of God. The entire Bible is the Inspired Word of the Holy Spirit. (2 Timothy 3:16) In this Passage, Paul is speaking of a particular period of time. In this case, it is the Last Days.
The first thing he said was that some in the Church will depart from the faith. Please remember that Paul is referring to the Church. He is not speaking of people who are spiritually lost and do not believe. While some will attempt to make this argument, you cannot depart from somewhere you have not been. Therefore, this Verse speaks of those who did believe at one time but have departed from their faith.
To depart from the faith means these people have turned their back on Jesus and His Finished Work on the Cross. Instead, they have taken up with deceiving, lying spirits and demonic doctrines or beliefs. For those who believe in the “once saved, always saved” doctrine, this is one of the many Passages of Scripture that proves that to be false.
Seducing spirits are at work today in the Church to entice believers from faith in Christ and turn to doctrines and belief structures of the devil. This is very common in the church world today. Read the Word of God for yourself and be very careful of what is being taught in the Church you attend because the enemy comes only to kill, steal, and destroy. (John 10:10)
Pray and ask the Lord to give you clear understanding of His Word. He will grant you this request. This is the Work of the Holy Spirit as He is sent to be our Teacher.
The Teacher will……….turn the tide……..in your life!
Thank you Lord. Doreen
