Revelation 19:16 And He has on His Robe and on His Thigh a Name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
There is no greater Title on earth than King. Jesus is referred to as King many times throughout the Word of God. A King is a person who has supreme power over his kingdom. In most cases, this is an inherited position that lasts for the entire lifetime of the person. A King rules and reigns over the people of his kingdom and holds a position of supreme power. And so it is with King Jesus.
Jesus is referred to as King, King of Israel, and King of the Jews many times. In the Old Testament, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Zechariah all declared Jesus to be King. (Isaiah 43:15; Jeremiah 23:5; Zechariah 9:9)
In the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Paul all referred to Jesus as King. From the time He was born, Jesus was called King. Where is He that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen His Star in the East, and are come to worship Him. (Matthew 2:2)
Matthew also recorded Jesus declaring Himself to be King of the Jews. Now Jesus stood before the Governor. And the Governor asked Him, saying, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said to him, “It is as you say.” (Matthew 27:11)
We must remember that prior to Jesus going to the Cross, under the Old Covenant, only the Jews were God’s people. Jesus was sent by God for God’s people. This is why Jesus is most often called King of the Jews. It was not until after Jesus was Crucified and Resurrected and Paul was commissioned to preach the Gospel to all people that whosoever would believe could be a child of God, was Jesus seen as King of Kings.
Actually, it was the Apostle Paul who first called Jesus the King of Kings. We find this in his letter to Timothy. I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep this Commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the Blessed and only Potentate, the KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting Power. Amen. (1 Timothy 6:13-16)
Unlike earthly Kings, Jesus’ reign as King is not a temporary assignment over a particular nation of people. Rather, Jesus is King of the Kingdom of God. He is King over all humanity and His Kingship has no end. It is eternal and everlasting.
While all of us who are believers know Him to be our King today, it will not be until His Second Coming that all the world will know that He is indeed King of Kings. Now I saw Heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in Righteousness He Judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many Crowns. He had a Name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His Name is called The Word of God. And the armies in Heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, and with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His Robe and on His Thigh a Name written: KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS. (Revelation 19:11-16) Hallelujah!
King Jesus is just about to…..…….turn the tide……….in this world.
All hail King Jesus! Doreen
