Luke 8:28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!”
Demonic spirits need a body (human or animal) to operate through. They do not operate in the world on their own. Any unsaved, spiritually lost person is free game for demonic spirits to move in. The demoniac spoken of by Matthew, Mark, and Luke was one such person. The demons totally possessed this man, robbing him of everything including his sanity.
The comparison of him and the radical Muslims and Satan worshipers are parallel in nature. As we consider the words and actions of these people, try to keep in mind that it is the demons speaking and ministering to them that cause them to say and act as they do.
When Jesus approached the demoniac, the demons that possessed him knew who Jesus was and spoke to Jesus. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!”
Satan knows who Jesus is. All his demons know who He is too. The legion of demons that possessed the demoniac were happy living in the body of this man and begged Jesus not to torment them. They had lived there for a long time and were content where they were. They knew Jesus would identify them and cast them out.
When Jesus looked at this man He did not see a wild, crazy man who acted like an animal. He saw the man created by God who was possessed by a legion of demons. Some theologians say a “legion” is 6,000. Just imagine the picture Jesus saw: A man with 6,000 demonic monsters clinging to him, all screaming at him simultaneously.
Jesus saw all the demons attached to this man and had compassion for him. We serve an awesome Savior with great compassion for all people. He can see what we cannot see. That’s why His Mercy is never-ending.
The demons that possess Muslims and other Satanic worshipers, know who Jesus is and they hate Him. This is the spirit of antichrist. This is why they hate all Christians. The demons have attacked the minds of these people and many of them have become like the demoniac; hateful, mean, strong, and like wild animals.
As we attempt to see them through the Eyes of Jesus we see first and foremost the demonic spirit of antichrist. Satan hates Jesus with a passion. Like the demoniac, there is a legion of demons (perhaps 6,000) that have possessed these people, but the spirit of antichrist is the first.
This demon has instructed the followers of Islam to “kill the infidel.” and “smite them at their necks.” This instruction is written down in their holy book, the Qur’an. This is why we see them beheading Christians and Jews. It’s demonic. It’s the spirit of antichrist at work in these people.
Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.(1 John 2:18; 22-23)
The first and most powerful of the demonic spirits ministering to these people is the spirit of antichrist. The opposing Righteous Spirit is FAITH. Not just any faith, but FAITH IN CHRIST ALONE!
