Isaiah 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.
God wants to do a total transformation of our lives but we have to give ourselves over to Him and allow Him access to every part of us. I like to call this a total spiritual make-over. When a person goes to a spa for a make-over, they have to be willing to go. If they are taken by someone else and they really don’t want the make-over done, it won’t last. They may look different when they leave the spa, but in a few days, they will look just like they did prior to going. The same is true with a spiritual make-over.
Jesus spoke about this in His Parable of the Sower. Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear! (Matthew 13:3-9)
In this Parable, we find seed and ground. The seed is representative of the Word of God and the ground (or earth) is our spirit. In all cases, the seed is the same. It is all good. The difference lies in the condition of the ground. If the ground has been properly prepared and made ready for the seed, it will take root, grow, and produce a crop. If not, it will be easily blown away by the wind or wither and die due to no root structure.
And so it is with everyone. If we are spiritually prepared and have opened our hearts to receive the Word of God (seed) it will take root and grow. Once the seed is planted, little by little it will grow and develop into a plant. A planted seed does not become a full-grown, fruit-producing plant or tree overnight. It takes time and it must be watered and cared for.
The Word of God spoken through the great Prophet Isaiah says, For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little. (Isaiah 28:10) Just as a plant grows and develops one leaf at a time, so do we spiritually. As we willingly read the Word of God and learn His Precepts, little by little, we will grow in our faith and develop into the person God created us to be.
As it is in the Parable of the Sower and in gardening, it’s all about the condition of the ground. If we are willing, the Holy Spirit will do great things in us and through us. Our willingness and want-to will determine our spiritual growth and the fruit we produce.
Perhaps it's time to take a soil sample and test it for its preparedness. Are you willing to undergo the make-over God wants to do in you? Do you want Him to do great things in you and through you? If so, He will transform you.
Little by little, He will……..….turn the tide……..in your life if you are willing.
He has done great things and I know there is more to come! Doreen
