Ezekiel 8:13 He said also unto me, Turn you yet again and you shall see greater abominations that they do.

To this point in the Vision, God showed Ezekiel a deplorable picture of the Temple. God was angry and He drug Ezekiel by his hair and revealed to him the evil image of jealousy which blocked the Altar of Sacrifice.

The Door (Jesus) was covered by a thick wall with only a small hole affording access. Ezekiel had to dig through the thick wall and when he entered the Door what he found inside was an abomination to God. The walls were covered with carvings of satanic idols and seventy highly esteemed men of the House of Israel were all worshiping these idols.

Could it get any worse? Apparently so because God then said to Ezekiel, Turn you yet again and you shall see greater abominations that they do.  Verse 14: Then He brought me to the door of the gate of the Lord’s House which was toward the north; and, behold, here sat women weeping for Tammuz.

Tammuz was a false god of the harvest. The pagan custom was for the women to weep over him due to his early death which would bring on the rainy season and guarantee a bountiful harvest as he came back to life.

Ezekiel saw women engaging in idol worship in the Temple as they sat weeping for the false god, Tammuz. This was an open display of their misplaced faith. If they trusted God for provision they would not be crying out to a false god and practicing pagan traditions. The Lord told Ezekiel this was an even greater abomination! Even the women were engaging in idol worship and they were doing it at the gate of the Lord‘s House! Imagine coming to the Temple to be met at the gate by a bunch of wailing women crying out to a false god!  How much worse could it get?

The men had fallen into idol worship and the women followed with their own type of idol worship. As we look at the Body of Christ today we see the exact same thing. As the male leaders of the Church slip out of faith in God, their wives follow right along behind and seek answers in astrology and many other false gods. Again I ask, how much worse can it get?

We’re about to find out as the Lord speaks again to Ezekiel and says, Have you seen this, O son of man? Turn you yet again, and you shall see greater abominations than these. (Verse 15)  We will discuss this tomorrow but until then, ask the Lord to reveal to you any area of your life that could be considered idol worship. Faith in anything but Jesus Christ and His Sacrifice on the Cross would fall into this category. As He reveals these things to you, sincerely repent and turn away asking God to deliver you from evil.

The women were weeping over a lack of provision. Jesus taught us to pray. Part of this prayer reads, Give us this day our daily bread AND DELIVER US FROM EVIL!  God is able to deliver us from evil but we must WANT to be delivered.

We must fix our eyes upon Jesus and keep them there. In Him, we have all Victory over sin, death, and the devil’s schemes. To God be the glory, great things He hath done.

Faith in Jesus Christ will……..turn the tide
