Ephesians 4:23 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,

Yesterday we began a discussion about two people in the New Testament who do not have names. They are very important people because they represent every person on earth. They are the old man and the new man.

The Apostle Paul wrote a lot about both of these people in his Epistles to the various churches in the region. These people were believing Christians and yet, they were living as the old man. They had not yet been transformed by the Holy Spirit into the new man. They had never been taught these valuable lessons.

But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the Truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true Righteousness and Holiness. (Ephesians 4:22-24) Here we see a description of the old man and the new man. They are completely opposite to each other. The old man is ever-growing corrupt, deceitful, and evil because he is the product of Satan.

The new man is Righteous and Holy because he is the product of the Truth of the Word of God. The last phrase of this Passage reads the new man which was created according to God, in true Righteousness and Holiness. When we study this Passage deeper we find that in the original Greek, it reads the new man which was created according to God in Righteousness and Holiness of the Truth. This takes on a whole new meaning.

The new man is a product of the Truth of the Word of God. The new man will live in obedience to the Truth of the Word of God. He will adhere to the Word of God and use it as his standard of living. It is to be our blueprint for life. Every aspect of our lives is addressed in the Truth of the Word of God. There is nothing we will encounter that is not addressed in the Bible.

The only source of Righteousness and Holiness is God and His Word. Jesus is the Word of God and He is the Truth. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:14) I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John 14:6) The Holy Spirit will do His Work within us to keep us on track and in alignment with the Truth of God’s Word.

Our part in this is to want to be changed. We must want to turn from our old ways and take on the new. We must come to the place where we hate the old man and want to be the new man. that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in Righteousness and Holiness of the Truth. (Ephesians 4:23-24)

We all have a choice in this matter. We can choose to continue living as the old man or we can choose to be the new man, created according to God in Righteousness and Holiness of the Truth.

God stands ready to……….turn the tide……….in your life.
