Acts 16:30 Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
The jailer asked Paul and Silas the question Sirs, what must I do to be saved? This man must have heard Paul, Silas, Timothy, and Luke preaching and teaching in the streets of Philippi to use this terminology. Prior to the Evangelists coming there, the people had no knowledge or understanding of the Gospel of Christ. Therefore, this man wouldn’t know he was lost so he wouldn’t ask to be saved.
The truth is, lost people don’t know just how lost they really are. We don’t know what we don’t know. A long time ago I read somewhere this statement: One has to understand one is lost before one can understand one needs to be saved.
This is why Teaching the Gospel is so important. People need to come to the understanding that they are a sinner headed for eternity in Hell, and need a Savior. When they arrive at that point, then they can reach out to God in Repentance and be Saved and born again.
Repentance is admitting you are wrong and God is right. Repentance begins with the sincere heartfelt sorrow we feel deep down inside that we are lost; that we have failed God; that we are out of the Will of God. It is the real craving for the things of God and His Ways.
When we hear that God made a Way for us to be Saved and Delivered out of our world of sin and shame, we accept His Love and Mercy and turn from our wicked ways. We no longer have those old wants and desires because to please God is our new desire.
True Salvation will pick you up and put you on a new path in life and you will WANT to be different. You don’t want to do the things you used to do. You don’t want to talk the way you used to talk. You are a new creation IN Christ Jesus. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (1 Corinthians 5:17)
In short, when we accept Christ as our Savior, the Holy Spirit, who comes to dwell inside us, will change our want-to. That’s a good thing!
Faith in Christ Jesus will……...….turn the tide……..in this world.
He changed my want-to. Doreen
