2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
In our quest to define God’s Plan for His Church, our study in the Book of Acts led us to the Book of Revelation where Jesus dictated seven letters to John. Each letter was for one of the Seven Churches in Asia at that time. These letters are applicable to the Church today because the issues they had then are still prevalent in the Church today.
The ultimate goal in the life of every believer is to make Heaven their eternal home. What we believe, our faith in the Finished Work of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary, and how we apply our faith to our daily lives will be the determining factor in our eternal destiny.
It all comes down to faith and obedience. That’s all God really asks of us. He wants us to believe Him, trust in Him, and obey what He says. In the 21st Chapter of Revelation, we find it spelled out plainly. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the fearful, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. (Revelation 21:7-8)
If we totally believe in God and place our faith in the Finished Work of Christ on the Cross, none of the things listed in Revelation 21:8 will apply to us. All these things are the manifestation of the work of the enemy in our lives who comes only to kill, steal, and destroy. (John 10:10) When we come to the full and complete understanding that Jesus nailed all this to the Cross of Calvary, we can live our lives as overcomers and walk in total Victory over the power of the Devil.
The first thing on the list is fear. This is one of Satan’s most powerful weapons. Everything we struggle with is founded in fear. When you think about it, worry and concern is nothing more than fear. A bad report from the doctor will initiate concern. This is fear. When the stock market drops 600 points in a day, we become concerned about our income. This is fear. When our loved ones aren’t home on time we begin to worry for their safety. This is fear. When we are laid off from our job we become concerned about providing for our families. When our house burns down or is blown away by a tornado, we worry about where we will live and how we will provide shelter for our family. This is fear. Hopefully, you are getting the picture.
Every thought of worry, concern or doubt is founded in fear. As stated above, fear is the enemy’s most used weapon against us because it robs us of our faith. We cannot walk in faith and fear at the same time. We either believe in and trust God or we operate in worry, concern, and fear.
What is it that you are afraid of? What causes you to worry? What are you concerned about? Whatever your answers are to these questions are a demonstration of fear in your life. As true, born-again believers in the Finished Work of Jesus on the Cross, we have no reason to fear. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
All fear is from the enemy. Power, love, and a sound mind are from God. We can either operate in fear or in power, love, and a sound mind which is faith in God. The choice is ours. Which do you choose today?
Choose faith and watch God….….turn the tide ……….in your life.
No fear! Doreen
