Obedience

1 Samuel 15:22 Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice.

Peter and those traveling with him, went into the house of Cornelius where a number of his friends and family were gathered. Peter asked Cornelius why he sent for him and Cornelius told Peter that he had seen an Angel and that Angel told him to send for Peter. (Acts 10:30-33)

The Lord had also given Peter a Vision and spoke to him a clear Word, Do not call common or unclean that which I have cleansed. Peter understood the meaning of the Vision and the Word, so he traveled from Joppa to Caesarea to the home of Cornelius.

This was a God-orchestrated meeting. Divine instructions had been given to both Cornelius and Peter and all they had to do was be obedient, which they both were. Because of their obedience, God did something that had never been done before!

Peter explained to Cornelius and the other Gentiles all about Jesus. He told them of His Miracles, Crucifixion, Burial, and Resurrection. (Acts 10:34-41) He also told them that Jesus appeared to them AFTER His Resurrection and gave them instructions to preach the Gospel to all people. And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. (Acts 10:42)

The Disciples heard Jesus speak these Words, but they still thought it only pertained to the Jews! They just couldn’t believe that a Gentile could be saved! However, they were about to learn otherwise and Peter said, To Him all the Prophets witness that, through His Name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins. (Acts 10:43) This included Gentiles. Jesus went to the Cross for the Jews AND the Gentiles! He went to the Cross for EVERYONE and ANYONE who believes in Him will be Saved!

They all believed what Peter was saying and because of their belief, they were all Saved! While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the Word. (Acts 10:44)

What a day that must have been for Peter, Cornelius, and all the others who were present. It all happened due to their obedience to what the Lord told them to do. Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice.

Obedience to the Lord will…...….turn the tide
