Once Saved, Always Saved?

Hebrews 12:15 looking diligently lest any man fail of the Grace of God;

There is a prevalent teaching in the Body of Christ today that is known as “Once Saved, Always Saved.” To be blunt, this is a false teaching and the Word of God proves it over and over again.

Hebrews speaks to this subject in the 12th Chapter. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the Grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled. Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For you know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the Blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. (Hebrews 12:14-17)

The entire Word of God is instructions by which we are to live our lives. It is our Standard for Living. It is the very Words of God the Father to us, His children. God means what He says and He says what He means. God does not speak to hear Himself talk. Every Word in the Bible is inspired by God, Who is One with the Holy Spirit and Jesus, the Son. The Three are One making up the Godhead. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in Righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

The writer of Hebrews draws the comparison between Esau in the Old Testament and believers today. Esau was in the family but he sold his birthright because he was hungry. He traded his family blessing and future, for a bowl of soup. You can read the whole story in Genesis 25, but the bottom line is this: Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright. (Genesis 25:34)

Esau was in the family. He had been born into the family. Jesus told us, to be in the Family of God today we must be born again. Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God. (John 3:3) Once we are born again we become a child of God and a part of His Family BUT we absolutely can turn our backs on God lose and our place in the family. For you know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the Blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. (Hebrews 12:17)

While it is absolutely true that no person can take your Salvation from you, you yourself can turn from it and trade it for the things of this world. We cannot live the sinful life of this world and profess to be a born again Christian at the same time.

Many people today are toying with their eternal inheritance; their Blessing; their place in the Family. If you have been taught that it doesn’t matter what you do or how you live, I would encourage you to read the Bible for yourself. That IS NOT WHAT IT SAYS. Will you believe the words of man or the Word of God?

Today is the day of Repentance. Just as the father of the prodigal son welcomed the young man back into the family, your Father in Heaven will welcome you back but there is only one Way in. That Way is through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His Finished Work on the Cross of Calvary. He said, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father but by Me. (John 14:6) Your faith in the Cross of Christ will get you into the Family and that same faith will KEEP you in the family.

Continual Faith in Jesus will……….turn the tide……….in your life.
