1 John 4:9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His Only Begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
The Apostle John wrote the Gospel of John, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and Revelation. John referred to Jesus as God’s ONLY BEGOTTEN SON four times in his writings that have been included in the Canon of Scripture. (John 1:18; John 3:16; John 3:18; 1 John 4:9)
The term ONLY BEGOTTEN SON sets Jesus apart as the unique and only Son of God the Father. The word begotten is derived from the Greek word monogenes which has two meanings. First of all, it pertains to someone who is “one of a kind with a specific, unique relationship.” The second meaning pertains to the “only one of its kind or class; unique in every way” or “only child.”
Jesus being called the ONLY BEGOTTEN SON of the Father implies that He is the ONLY person to ever live on this earth and have the exact same Nature as God the Father.
We also find this term in Hebrews referring to Isaac, Abraham’s only begotten son. Isaac was not Abraham’s only son but he was the only son he had by Sarah making Isaac the only son of the covenant. This made Isaac unique and one of a kind which warranted the use of the word monogenes. By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son. (Hebrews 11:17)
Several times in the Word of God we read about certain people being “sons of God.” In His Sermon on the Mount Jesus said Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)
When asked a question, Jesus answered But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the Resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the Angels and are sons of God, being sons of the Resurrection. (Luke 20:34-35)
The Apostle Paul wrote For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. (Romans 8:14)
In his letter to the Galatians Paul wrote For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:26)
Given these Passages of Scripture, we see that those people who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ, are led by the Spirit of God, and are peacemakers are sons of God. However, no one will ever be the ONLY BEGOTTEN SON of God except Jesus. His relationship with the Father is one of a kind and unique. In this regard, Jesus is God’s Only Son; His ONLY BEGOTTEN SON.
Your faith in the ONLY BEGOTTEN SON will……..….turn the tide……….in your life.
Praise God the Father for His ONLY BEGOTTEN SON! Doreen
